The Data Science Laboratory is an academic research unit of the School of Production Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Crete.

Building on a long-established background in data analysis and forecasting, the laboratory has evolved into a contemporary research environment focused on Data Science, Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and intelligent decision support systems. Our mission is to transform data into actionable knowledge and support informed decision-making in academia, industry, and society.

Alpha Bank – Research & Strategic Collaboration

Lead Researcher on Alpha Bank High-Impact Strategic Projects: Dimitris Zopounidis

Dimitris Zopounidis serves as Lead Researcher on strategic projects developed in collaboration with Alpha Bank, focusing on Artificial Intelligence, risk management, data-driven decision-making and strategic intelligence.

He leads a project dedicated to the development of AI Risk Management Methodologies aligned with the requirements of the EU AI Act, supporting governance frameworks, risk assessment processes and the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence within the financial sector.

He also serves as Principal Investigator, Lead Researcher and Coordinator of a large-scale Data-Driven Strategic Intelligence and Data-to-Decision Analytics Study developed in collaboration with Alpha Bank, aiming to support evidence-based strategy, policy formulation and informed decision-making.

Additionally, he contributes to the establishment and strengthening of the strategic relationship between Alpha Bank and the Technical University of Crete through collaborative initiatives and support activities carried out within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations.
